Basic admission path

At the turn of spring and summer, recruitment to the UPWr Doctoral School takes place. See the detailed admission schedule for a given academic year.

The basic steps are:

  1. Selection of the supervisor and research topic (current list)
  2. Candidate registration (stage 1)
  3. Submission of documents (stage 1)
  4. Interview (stage 2)
  5. Announcement of results

  1. Read the information about the Doctoral School programme carefully. From the programme, you will learn what the education will look like and what requirements you will have to meet. Also, make sure you get familiar with the regulations on Doctoral School admission for the academic year 2024/2025.
  2. Contact a potential supervisor to determine the research topic and scope of the dissertation you would like to pursue. In the recruitment process, you will need the supervisor's consent. After agreeing on the topic, the supervisor fills in the evaluation of the candidate’s aptitude for scientific work. The current list of promoters and available research topics can be found in the Supervisors and research topics tab.
  3. You may apply to UPWr Doctoral School based on 2 paths:
    a) Path 1: applies only to first-cycle studies graduates or students who have completed the 3rd year of uniform master studies and demonstrate the highest quality of scientific achievements. If in the year of applying to the Doctoral School, you have not completed and will not complete second-cycle or uniform master studies, then this path is for you. Check the criteria for this path.
    b) Path 2: for candidates who have completed or will complete their second-cycle or uniform master studies in the year of applying to the DS. If you do not have a Master's degree yet and expect to receive it by September this year, then this path is for you.
  4. Please read the information for international candidates.
  5. Familiarize yourself with the admission schedule.

Registration

  • International candidates register in the Apply UPWr system.

Documents

Prepare the necessary documents:

  • Application form for admission to the doctoral school generated from the Apply UPWr system.
  • ID photo in electronic version (see photo requirements).
  • Scan of passport – page with the personal data.
  • Candidate's card
    Please learn more about the list of journals and the scores you may receive. The candidate's card and the list of journals are available in the forms tab.
  • Candidate’s aptitude for scientific work form (in the forms tab) + scan of the UPWr supervisor's e-mail with the acceptance for the candidate's topic.
  • Document confirming knowledge of English at the B2 level:
    - IELTS, at least level B2;
    - TOEFL, at least level B2;
    - Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency (former FCE, CAE, CPE);
    - a document from your university certifying the language of instruction was English;
    - a document from your university certifying that you have passed the English language exam on B2 level during your studies.
  • Documentation confirming the achievements indicated in the Candidate's card, (download templates from the forms tab)
  • For admission path 1 (if in the year of applying to the DS you will not be able to submit a second-cycle or uniform master's degree diploma): Application for permission to take part in the 1st stage of the admission process (in the forms tab)
  • For admission path 2 (if in the year of applying to the DS you will be able to submit a second-cycle or uniform master's degree diploma): for candidates who have the professional title of Master, Master of Science, or an equivalent confirmed by a diploma or presented a certificate from the relevant dean's office confirming the completion of the study programme - it is required to deliver a graduation diploma by 15 September of the current year.
  • Documents confirming education and other scientific achievements should be presented in the Polish or English language. If the documents are issued in other languages than mentioned, an appropriate translation of documents into Polish or English performed by a sworn translator is required (read more in information for international candidates tab.
  • Legalization of documents on education (legalization, Apostille).
  • For candidates who want to study in the Polish language, a Polish-language certificate is required (read more in the information for international candidates tab).
  • Confirmation of payment for the admission fee in the amount of 200 PLN or 50 EUR.
    For candidates from developing countries according to the OECD list, the recruitment fee is 20 EUR.
    The application fee is non-refundable.

Attention! Application documentation should be submitted via e-mail to the following address: szkola.doktorska@upwr.edu.pl.

Please scan each document separately, the name of the file should contain information about the document and the name and surname of the candidate. Title of the email: admission 2024/25 - name and surname. 

After being accepted to the Doctoral School, the original documents should be delivered to the Doctoral School Office.

The Recruitment Committee will assess the candidate’s academic achievements according to the criteria listed in cadidate's card.

The recruitment committee will evaluate your application and inform you about the result of the first stage of recruitment.

Interview – oral presentation on the subject of the future PhD dissertation and the applicant’s scientific interests. The interview may be conducted in English on the condition that it will be in accordance with B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Interviews with candidates will have the form of a videoconference (e.g. Google Meet).

The Recruitment Committee is obliged to adapt the recruitment procedure to the needs of a candidate with a disability on the basis of a disabled person identification card or a document/opinion issued by a relevant specialist outpatient clinic.

A candidate with a disability should inform the Recruitment Committee of the necessity of adapting the recruitment process to their needs no later than seven working days before the start of the recruitment. A document proving the disability should be submitted with the application.

  1. Immediately after the end of the admission procedure, you will receive information about its result. The results of the admission procedure are public.
  2. If you have been qualified for the UPWr Doctoral School, you must register on the list of doctoral students through the entry form within 7 days. Send a scan of the entry to the following e-mail address: szkola.doktorska@upwr.edu.pl.
     Failure to register in the prescribed period will result in issuing a decision not to be admitted to the UPWr Doctoral School.
  3. Deliver all originals and copies of your admission documentation to the Doctoral School Office within the timeframes given by the Doctoral School Office.
  4. The condition for obtaining the status of a doctoral student at the UPWr Doctoral School is taking an oath.

THE CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE TO THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL

The Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences in the first year of studies at the Doctoral School in the academic year 2024/2025 will accept no more than 30 candidates (§ 2 section 2 of Resolution No. 67/2023 of the Senate of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław of December 15, 2023).

Candidates will be admitted to the Doctoral School within the limit of places who:

  1. as a result of the recruitment procedure, obtained at least 50% of the points that could be obtained in the admission procedure (62 points in stage I + II);
  2. demonstrated knowledge of the English language at the minimum B2 level of the European System for the Description of Languages.
